Money, Money, Money,...

Presumably planning games that tap into the current military operations, Sony files for the "Shock & Awe" trademark, while Battlefront.com files for "Operation Iraqi Freedom."

On March 21, just before the start of the war in Iraq, SCEA filed an application with the US Patent and Trademark Office to lock down the name "Shock & Awe," possibly for use as the title of an upcoming game that would, according to the filing, include multiplayer support.

The trademark application was mentioned in a story by the UK newspaper The Guardian, which pointed out that this is just one of many trademarks for products that are planned to be marketed with the war's signature terms. Battlefront.com, the publisher of the 3D tactical wargame Combat Mission, has filed an application to trademark "Operation Iraqi Freedom."
